Emmsgems Comes to Town...

I take part in a Canadian buy n sell thread on Etsy. It is a wonderful meeting place for artisans from not only across our own country but from various other countries around the world. The artisans on this thread have become family, we are all there to support each other not only in our work, but in our lives.
It was here on the thread that I met Emily of Emmsgems. Emily and her husband Jason came from Winnipeg, to stay with us this past weekend. I will admit, I was a little apprehensive meeting strangers. Strangers in real life, but not strangers really. We have chatted in the thread and by convo many many many times. I told her as we were planning their visit, that if I rented them a motel room, she would know we were not well matched, in personality. I was kidding, well kind of. She didn't have to worry, they are wonderful people, comfy, felt like we had know them both for ages. I hope they felt, feel the same way.

Emily realized Terrace Bay is not Winnipeg, she needed to dress warmer.

Simply Pearls

I am very fond of pearls. They can be dressed up or down, they are simply beautiful!
Two new listings in my Etsy shop today. Love them both, one with oxidized sterling and the other with oxidized copper.

Four Long Months... of Outside House Chores

The summer in reverse.. back to front.
We almost didn't make it, the cold weather has arrived. We just finished putting the second coat of paint on the outside of this big old house. All we have left are the two doors, but hopefully we can sneak them in before the snow flies. The walls, paint covered cedar shakes were in terrible shape, they needed so much scraping, it took two months to do. A long two months of constant work.

Quick Trip

Mark's Aunt Jean passed away two weeks ago, seven weeks after his dad passed away. She fought a long hard battle with lung cancer, but after her brother passed away she gave up her fight. We made a quick trip to the Island for her funeral.
These are the images from that trip.

New listing for me today! Gorgeous rich vibrant wool rug. I am however having trouble portraying the rich gorgeous colour in my photos. I find it hard to photograph red, and have it be true to the real thing.

After having my textile cut and waiting in my loom room, for over a month, I finally got down to the task last night. I finished weaving the rug this morning. It is lovely if I may say so myself! Pale and pretty!

The Summer of My Discontent

I have neglected my blog this past summer, I was too miserable, upset, cranky....
Mark and I live with my mom in the house I grew up in. My family moved here when I was in high school. We have enjoyed a view of Lake Superior and the Slate Islands, until this summer. The hospital is building a new long term care wing, it will take our view from us. Never mind the chaos of having major construction in your back yard, but this loss of view has devastated me.
This wing could have been built in a different place or in a different way. I live on Lakeview Drive, my family paid for this view..the hospital is being a bad neighbour.
I am not a happy camper, and my little world has changed.. is this progress? I am not so sure.. my bubble has been burst. I am not sure I want to live here any more, with a building so close to our yard. At the moment we do not have another option. Yes eventually I will get used to it, but for now I am upset.

Customer Appreciation

A couple of weeks ago I sold a rug to a repeat customer, always a nice thing. I shipped the rug to her via Purolator, a first for me, and it worked out perfectly. I am pleased with their service.
This morning she sent me a customer appreciation photo via convo, and was kind enough to email me a copy of it tonight.

My rug, now her rug, at home in her kitchen! It fits perfectly!
Thank you Angelique!

The Eaton Girls...

On Saturday we drove to my sisters camp and spent the afternoon and evening with my family. It's not often that we are all able to be together. It was nice to have a photo taken with the five of us, the four sisters with our mom. My mom and her girls. (sorry Ernie.. but you are not a girl... you're the boy. the brother, the son, we will have some photos taken of us all together, at Trisha's wedding this coming winter!)
