First Lake Freighters of the Season

I saw my first boat of this autumn season out on the Lake this afternoon,

it is always a thrill to see them!

then as I sat here at my computer I spied another out on the horizon, 

so I took the photo through the screened window

It has always been a thrill for us to catch glimpses of the freighters out on the Lake. We really do miss our old view, we have to be quick these days, our window of opportunity has been diminished.

The boats are miles away.. photo quality is not all that it should be.

First Ship of the Season

We saw our first ship of the season this afternoon, heading east towards the Sault. It was very windy so it was hugging the shore, in the channel between the mainland and the Slates Islands. It's always a thrill to see a freighter out on the Lake!

Lake Boats

The whole fall season we did not see any freighters out on the Lake, maybe we were just not looking at the right time. In the past week or so we have seen many many ships, today we saw 9!! Wow, what a fabulous treat! We get very excited to be able to see them out there.

The First Day of Winter

Whoohoo first day of winter today!! The daylight will now start getting longer!! I love the light of the year...

This morning we spotted two boats out on the Lake, one on the horizon, heading to the Sault and this one on the inside channel heading to Thunder Bay. Brrr!

Lake Freighters and Mountain Ash berries

Yesterday I went for my daily walk uptown to check the mail. As I came down the hill home, as our town is built on terraces, hence the name Terrace Bay..., I spied a lake freighter out between the Slate Islands and the mainland. Always a treat, I get excited.. I ran in the house grabbed my camera and took a few photos. I had to zoom, as it was about 5 miles away, and would have looked quite small. The fall is the season when we see the most lake freighters, as we get big winds. They come in closer depending on the direction of the wind.

I have also been wanting to go out and take a photo of the mountain ash berries. the tree are just hanging with berries, so pretty now that the leaves have fallen. The birds will have a feast! The berries are gorgeous, the ends look as though they have been stitches into a star. So pretty.

Monday!

Blustery cold winter day, snow blowing everywhere. I am not looking forward to going out. 

To my surprise when I looked out the kitchen window this morning, I saw a lake freighter heading east. Brrr!! The shipping season must be almost be at its end.

I am getting ready to list a felted wool rug in my Etsy shop. I wove it before Christmas and just took photos of it outside yesterday. Good thing I did the photos yesterday as everything is once again snow covered out back.
