Happy New Year

January is already starting to fly by…
Our son and his girlfriend flew out early this morning,
 our Christmas vacation is over.
The house is so quiet, I miss my kids.
I wish we lived closer together.
Mark and I went to the beach before dinner, brrr.
We sure didn't linger there for long,
what a cold winter this has been so far.

First Lake Freighters of the Season

I saw my first boat of this autumn season out on the Lake this afternoon,
it is always a thrill to see them!

then as I sat here at my computer I spied another out on the horizon,
so I took the photo through the screened window

Blue Ice, Spring Snow Storm, April 6th, 2013

I absolutely love the blue ice on the beach this afternoon. We are having a spring snow storm, snowy and very blowy. It was really cold out there, and the wind was driving the snow into our eyes. Hehe, I didn't want to come home, I was mesmerized by the vibrant blue ice. The blue just seems to pop in the grey of this snowy day.
I love it!

Grey Day

It was a chilly damp, mild day today, but the wind was very cold down at the Lake. There is ice building up on the shore, it seems to change every day. I love to hear the tinkling sound of the ice as it undulates with the wave action underneath. Beauties!

Water Spout on Lake Superior

Yesterday afternoon as I was cooking our Thanksgiving dinner Mark spotted this water spout, funnel cloud out on the Lake. There wasn't much time for me to get a few photos of it as it was moving east on the Lake. The hospital blocks our view, but it was pretty cool to watch it while I could.

We went to the garbage dump this afternoon,
yes an exciting life I lead..
we stopped up on Hydro Hill on our way home.
It was gorgeous  up there, I hadn't been up there for years.
I was and am dismayed at how much garbage
has been dumped along the road,
and how much broken glass there is everywhere.
Shame on who ever did this.

Waves in Ice

We went to the beach yesterday, it was so cold, not at all pleasant on bare fingers taking photos. I loved the wave patterns in the ice on the sandy shore.

Lake Boats in the Winter

It has always been a thrill for us to catch glimpses of the freighters out on the Lake. We really do miss our old view, we have to be quick these days, our window of opportunity has been diminished.
The boats are miles away.. photo quality is not all that it should be.

this was last Tuesday, the day Thomas left
we really liked this one,
the lake was so clear, no mist

I think this was the last boat
the last boat we saw anyway
the locks in the Sault are now closed for the season

30 Seconds at the Beach

We went to the beach yesterday afternoon with Miss Bean. I love the colour of the water and the sound of the waves!

Inland Hurricane- Superior Style

We are experiencing an inland hurricane, or so the weather channel called it, category 3 hurricane. The wind is howling, the rain pelting, it was hard standing on the beach this aft.

main beach, Lake Superior, Terrace Bay

pump house beach, Terrace Bay
this driftwood is up on the beach, where people sit in the summer

looking east

Miss Bean, free - no leash

the waves are spectacular, hard to capture their size with my camera

grey grey day, but the colour of the water was so pretty
aqua green

the waves at the next beach over looked huge,
they were hitting directly over there.
